Peru

Transit System Differences

By Jacqueline Bejarano

The transit and rules are the major difference between United Stated and Peru. Peru is a country where the people made their own rules and follow their instincts. In United States it is totally different because the people respect the rules. If the people don’t respect the rules, the people go to the jail.

First, in comparison, with America, my country doesn’t have a good public transportation and the school buses don’t exist. Most people don’t have a car because it’s too expensive and the students use the public transportation to go to school. For example, when the people need to go to work, or students need to go to school at the same time, maybe 6am to 9am, the bus station is busy and it’s impossible to take the bus.

Second, the roads are always in trouble and the traffic lights hardly ever work. We have a transit police, but the people rarely take the indication and follow the rules when they drive. Sometimes, it’s too dangerous for transit police in my country. Every day in the news, you listen about the car accidents where the police did their work. In contrast, America has a good road, and the traffic lights works well and respect the rules and polices. For example, I live in Lacey. I drive early every day to go to the gym and one thing that surprises me when a traffic light doesn’t work is how people respect the time of others so that they can pass.

Third, when the people take the driver’s license test in Peru it is totally different from America. We need to go to a specific place and learn the car routine. Then we must take a test on the computer which is easy. That is another problem of having irresponsible drivers in Peru. If we don’t have good drivers who respect the laws, traffic cannot improve. For example, I had an experience while taking my driving test here. I drove fast and I didn’t respect the speed limit. The person who came with me in the car told me that in The United States you must follow the rules for everything. At that moment, I understood that I was not in my country and my mind would have to change.

Finally, I love my country and I recognize that Peru has trouble with the transit. Since I live here my mind change. Now I follow the rules and I live happy in United States.
