Colombia Culture

By Estella Correa Cantillo

Colombia is a place that has a unique culture.  We are considered the happiest people in the world.  Soccer is important to us.  Our official language is Spanish, but we also have indigenous language and English in certain areas such as San Andres islands.  We are made up of five regions which are: Andean, Caribbean, Pacific, Orinoquia and Amazon and thirty-two departments, they all have something that differentiates them through gastronomy, accent, way of dressing, even traditions.  I am from the Pacific region, so my culture is different from the rest.  For example, one of our traditional foods is aborragados, which are ripe bananas with cheese, empanadas, and sweet blancmange.  During times like Easter, it is common to make a drink, called Champus which is made form threshed corn, pineapple, sweet panela with orange and lulo leaves.

Colombian Music

By Evelyn

Hi, my name is Evelyn. I’m from Colombia, a beautiful country. I want to write about music because music is the most important culture representation of my country. Shakira, Juanes, and Carlos Vives are Colombian singers. Many people in the world listen to their songs and know that there is a country Colombia. The happy music shows that Colombian people are happy and friendly. In my country, music is very important for many celebrations with family or friends. Our music spreads joy. I love Colombian music and most people in the world do too.

My Beautiful Colombia

By Camillo Vargas

Colombia is a beautiful country, not only for its landscapes if not for the people.  In my country there are many things to discover, like its gastronomy and especially the magical places that characterize it.  What I miss most about my country is my family and empanadas or lechona that are traditional food in my region.  The culture shock when it arrived was strong because they are different customs and traditions that the USA has and especially the language, but I feel very comfortable being in this country and I want to learn more about the language and the different things that this beautiful country has.
