To Learn how to Cherish What you Have in the Life

By Wen Hua Lee

Living in the United States changed my lifestyle and I found that many of the consumptions in the past were not necessary, but just wanted, especially the clothes. Before I came to the States, I always felt that the clothes in the closet were not fashionable enough and that too many clothes filled in the closet. When I needed to move to the States and the time was getting close to the departure date for meeting my family, I felt anxious. I only had 2 pieces of luggage that can go with me; I had to decide carefully about which clothes I can put into my luggage.

So many clothes in my closet; they were all unique and beautiful. For example, that expensive navy dress had never been worn since I bought it. Why? There was no chance and suitable occasion to wear it. And another beautiful white shirt, a little transparent material, and some crystal sequins for decoration, it was amazing. I bought it when it was on sale at the department store, and it’s the same case, I never had a chance to wear it even just once. The question was, shall these kinds of clothes be brought to the States and looking for chances to wear them.

One day, I read the news, that the fashion trend caused many global demands for clothes that could not keep up with the supply. Eventually, they will be abandoned. The fashion trend has caused clothing damage to the environment. When I want to buy clothes and think about the consequences of fashion, the desire of buying clothes soon disappeared.

You must be curious about how many clothes I brought to the states. I just brought a few pieces of clothes with me. Those are what I wear often, and I like them putting on me. There are few clothes in my closet, so I cherish them. I use hangers to manage my clothes. If I want a piece of cloth in, I must let another one out. Now my closet is simple and freshened. I am satisfied.

People said, “The final goal of the organization is to learn how to cherish what you have”. Facing inflation, and reducing unnecessary desires maybe is a good idea. I’m so grateful for what I have Instead of thinking about continuously buying fashionable clothes. I realized it’s all not necessary but wanted.
