The Younger Family:

Lena/Mama: She is Walter Lee and Beneatha’s mother. She is Travis’s grandmother. Her job is cooking and cleaning in other people’s houses.

Big Walter: Lena’s husband and Walter Lee and Beneatha’s father. He died a few months before the story begins. He worked as a laborer.

Walter Lee: He is the oldest child of Lena and Big Walter. He works as a driver. He is married to Ruth. His son is Travis.

Ruth: She is Walter Lee’s wife. Travis’s mother. She cooks and cleans for other people.

Beneatha: She is Lena and Big Walter’s younger child. She is much younger than Walter Lee. She is studying at college to become a doctor. She shares a bedroom with her mother.

Travis: He is Walter Lee and Ruth’s son. He is ten years old. He sleeps on the couch.

Additional Characters:

George Murchison: He is Beneatha’s friend from college. He is from a wealthy family and is interested in marrying Beneatha.

Joseph Asagai: He is Beneatha’s friend from college. He is from Nigeria. He wants to become a politician. He is also interested in marrying Beneatha.

Mrs. Johnson: She is the Younger’s neighbor.

Karl Lindner: He is a representative from the Clybourne Park neighborhood.
